4. Demonstrating How Overrated You Think A Musical Is



I suppose a load of people would choose Andrew Lloyd Webber for this slot, and my choice might be quite controversial. Frankly I think that this film (must admit I haven't seen the stage show) is all bluster, with some OK songs which are hugely over-done. People say that they just love watching films set in that era, but there are loads of others to choose from, not least ones from that time itself! To talk about the song briefly; 'Nowadays' has a fairly standard message which doesn't say anything particularly interesting other than how modern things are now, it has a bog-standard 30s-esque chord progression, and in this version CZJ's great performance is spoiled by Renee Zellwegger pouting through it. Bah.
